York stone - What is it?
The word York stone refers to the band of sandstone quartz and other sedimentary mineral deposits which have collected and formed together over several millenia within the stone floors that run throughout the hills of Yorkshire.
The york stone being cut into scants
The stone consists of several different mineral deposits such as quartz and sandstone particles which have over time compressed together to form what is known as the stone beds of Yorkshire.
The process of making yorkstone paving isn't a simple thing.
The Yorkshire stone beds are quarried and the stone hewn from the beds, these beds provide a number of hardy seams and different coloured stones as can be expected from a natural formation.
These Boulder like stones are hewn and lifted from the ground and processed into sawn paving scants which in turn are then cut into paving stones as shown in the products we offer.
Stone qualities
Each seam chosen has been individually chosen for the qualities you would expect from a paving supply, tightly banded and durable and guaranteed to last a life time. Any natural product will contain slight inclusions and natural marks where iron deposits have run through the sedimentary process however each seam has been tested and certified by the quarry producers for strength and durability and overall porosity. - Individual data sheets can normally be provided through pre existing seam producers IE ( all seams chosen have corresponding data sheets on previous tests )
